The Big Story
Making our own decisions (image courtesy People with Disability Australia)
Inclusion Australia, the NDIA and Department of Social Services (DSS) have launched a new website hub to support individuals in making decisions as they engage with the NDIS.
The aim is for this new ‘Supported Decision Making Hub’ to become a central home for resources. This will assist people as they make decisions about their goals, supports and lives. The NDIA says the aim of the website is to “give people more control over the things that are important to them” by providing the readily-accessible information specific groups of individuals need.
The Hub has information targeted towards twelve different categories of people, including NDIS decisions, employment, health and accommodation. These are all clearly marked so that people who need, for example, ‘disability supports’ can immediately find the specific assistance they require.
This video shows how anyone can engage with the hub.
Supported decision making involves building the skills and knowledge of people with disability, their friends, families, carers, peers and professionals.
Because everyone needs support making different decisions at different points in time, the aim of this hub is to provide people with a ready resource that can assist them as their needs change.
